Improving health and wellbeing in Cairns

Yarrabah locals are improving their health and wellbeing by utilising a new, family-friendly boardwalk through the rainforest.

Work for the Dole (WFD) participants have constructed more than 100 metres of boardwalk using materials supplied by Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council.

Under the guidance of a supervisor, the boardwalk has enabled a safe and clear walking path through rainforest at Menmuny Museum Art Precinct. It connects with existing pathways providing a family-friendly option for getting active and learning about the local environment.

Previously, the path was overgrown and obstructed, creating concern for snakes and harmful insects. Thanks to this initiative, many Yarrabah families are coming together to enjoy the outdoors, which is something that would have rarely happened before.
